UK Food & Drink is Open for Business at ANUGA 2017

The food and drink industry is the UK’s largest manufacturing sector, accounting for 17% of all UK manufacturing.  In 2016, the UK exports exceeded £20bn for the first time, up 10.5% on 2015, with demand up in every single one of the UK's top 20 Markets.

Over 130 companies exhibited as part of the UK presence at this year’s ANUGA in Cologne (7-11 October), in 5 national pavilion stands organised by the PS8 team, working with the Food & Drink Exporters Association. The UK presence at ANUGA reflected the UK’s strength in product innovation and quality in the food and drink sector attracting buyers from across the globe.  From tradition and artisanal, organic and free from, buyers were able to search the products on the UK pavilion to source a wide range of high quality food and drink.

A strong representation of companies exhibited healthy foods, free from and organic foods across the UK pavilions in 5 sector halls. On trend Pulses & Grains were exhibited by first timer Merchant Gourmet, alongside Glebe Farm specialists in gluten free and Hampstead Tea’s biodynamic, organic teas. Rebel Kitchen's exciting new product range, Mylk, a range of plant based drinks that taste just like real dairy, was another hit.

 Dairy exports from the UK are one of the strongest performers with cheese exports up 11% in 2016 to £498.8million.   The UK pavilion in hall 10.1 showcased a vast range of dairy products from British regional artisan cheeses, traditional cheeses, to award winning quark from Graham's the Family Dairy, plus processed cheese and milk powders.  Lye Cross Farm were celebrating 25 years of organic production in the UK, with the launch of Non-GMO project registered Sharp Cheddar, Red Leicester and Double Gloucester.  From beautiful North Wales, Snowdonia Cheese Company were promoting their handcrafted range of fine waxed cheese. 

Drinks from the UK continued to innovate and excite including Belvoir Fruit Farm’s range of presses and cordials. New for 2018, Berrywhite announced the launch of their range of sparkling 330ml cans available in four delicious flavours.  Also new is Appy Food & Drink’s Super Milk with Paw Patrol licensing and added vitamins to aid kids' healthy growth - perfect for the Chinese year of the dog. Virtue Drinks was attracting interest from new markets for its Virtue Energy Water, the UK's first naturally sugar-free energy drink, whilst Pip Organic's Healthy Ice Lolly Retail Multipacks - crammed with just organic fruit & veg, with no nasties - offfered a refreshing treat!

Frozen convenience foods  including frozen organic vegetables for the food manufacturing sector from Hartley’s, Oriental dim Sum from Sam Pan Foods and a range of Ice products from crushed ice to extra-large ice cubes from The Ice Co.

Indulgent treats could be enjoyed from Destiny Foods, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of specialist patisserie in Great Britain, alongside Joe & Seph’s brand new Prosecco Caramel Sauce, made with 5% real Prosecco!  Walkers Shortbread remained one of the busiest stands at the show, displaying their world-renowned shortbread including gluten free and organic ranges.

Our app and directory of exhibitors have been widely circulated to the international trade and our message is that the UK is very much open for business ”
